And God said, Behold,

I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Genesis 1:29

Why We Do

Food insecurity and hunger are real concerns for millions of individuals’ worldwide to include the United States of America. Although the U.S. is one of the richest nations in the world, the poverty rate has never dropped below 10%. Poverty is a good indicator of those who are in danger of being or becoming hungry. In fact 70% of Americans are a medical expense, lost job, broken down vehicle, or stolen wallet away from food insecurity or hunger.

Hunger has damaging consequences upon mental and physical health. It negatively affects students’ performance in school and adult performance at work.

Lack of food contributes to social ills like those of domestic violence and the use of drugs. Since food is one of those basic human needs, most individuals will do anything to supply that need which can lead some to turn to theft in order to meet that essential need.

In order to reduce the pressures of committing antisocial acts, there is a desperate need to reduce the prevalence of hunger in all of our communities.

Hunger is a pressing concern in the North Lawndale community. Based on 2010 demographics for the North Lawndale community there are 39,859 persons within 3.185 square miles of which 47.5% are at or below the poverty line. This brings the total of those facing food insecurity to about 18,933 individuals. Among this group are men, women and children who face uncertain futures concerning their dietary needs. Earth to Table Ministries will look to bring more secure dietary outcomes for our community!
